2007 Bloomington Blowout!

December 4th, 2007  |  Published in Uncategorized

THREE DJs, TWO NIGHTS, ONE REASON:
AWESOMENESS.

Since both most everyone in Bloomington and the Rad Summer crew are going to be gone around the end of the month, we’re getting rid of all our best jams early! This weekend’s got both an all ages and a 21+ party, so there’s plenty of fun for everyone..

Expect fire from resident DJ’s Action Jackson and Flufftronix, and some special dance party magic from Denver/LA’s Sara T!

ABOUT SARA T

Sara T. has djed with Grandmaster Flash, Girl Talk, Flosstradamus, Gogol Bordello, Kool Keith, Glass Candy, Valient Thorr, Xiu Xiu, Stereo Total, The Juan Maclean, Bang Gang, Drop the Lime and more. She has dj’ed in warehouses, museums, dive bars, backyards, house parties, rock clubs, clubby clubs, galleries, theaters, event centers, weddings, on the radio and is open to other stuff you might dream up. She’s been doin this since 1997.

“As a musician, a visual artist, and the co-owner of the popular boutique Chielle, Sara Thurston already has plenty on her plate. But her soul is best expressed through her performance as DJ Sara T. Long hailed as one of the best DJ’s in Denver, Thurston blasts out sets of electro-inflected shrapnel and bass heavy artillery, all delivered with verve, intellect, integrity, and abandon. If you’re looking for a party in a crate, Sara T. brings it.”-The Onion // Sept 7th, 2006 // by Jason Heller

ABOUT FRANKI CHAN

Franki Chan is one of the leaders of the indie DJ movement in the USA, and owns IHEARTCOMIX, a record label, an event promotion company and a marketing brand. As a DJ, FRANKI has traveled the world, rocking dance parties from east to west and sharing the turntables with the best of the best. Raised in Indiana, but now living in Los Angeles, via Seattle and Okinawa, FRANKI found a love of DJ’ing through punk rock shows and going to the local 80’s dance clubs in the late 90’s.

FRANKI has had the honor of playing along side some of the best artists and DJs playing today including: MSTRKRFT, Justice, Spank Rock, Bloc Party, Flosstradamus, Uffie, Lady Sovereign, Diplo, The Presets, A-Trak, Peaches, Annie, Interpol, Green Velvet and many more. He has also played private events for PARIS HILTON, LINDSAY LOHAN, CRISTINA RICCI, movie premiers, magazines such as Paper, Nylon, Stuff and Jane and has even played COACHELLA. He’s been written up and featured in such publications as DJ Times, LA Times, Paper Magazine, Urb Magazine, Vapors, Spin, Rolling Stone, LA Weekly and The Stranger. FRANKI’s motivation from day one has always been about having fun, being creative and exposing those that share the same sentiment. He treats DJ’ing no differently.

Renovation underway!

September 17th, 2007  |  Published in Updates

Well, turns out I wasn’t a very good blogger while touring. Better luck next time, and on to the new plan: Rad Summer has expanded into a permanent project! You can expect us to be throwing off the wall parties, booking events and tours, posting up all sorts of next-level music on radsummer.com, and maybe even releasing some music and apparel.

In the short term though, we’ve got a new weekly party in Bloomington about to start later this month: DAFT CRUNK! We’re kicking it off a week from Friday, and have a pre-launch party this Friday:

As well there’s a major overhaul in the works here at the Rad Summer site. We’ll be posting up our schedule real soon (you can already see it here), and this site’s going be posted on by a handful of bloggers from the Bloomington scene and beyond. We’ve got a podcast in the works too, starting off with a mixtape containing remixes, edit, blends, and original tracks from all the performers we’ve got performing as Daft Crunk special guests—and tracks from the home team as well: Flufftronix, Action Jackson, and Paul Huett/Everything Continues. Yuuuuuuuuaa!!

Gettin LA’d

July 21st, 2007  |  Published in Updates  |  4 Comments

I’m not gonna lie, LA is soooooo much driving and sooooooo many jerkz! But these are only the people who we randomly encounter on the street or like bulldozing into me while trying to navigate the club. Everyone we’ve actually met, totally rad. Like italics and bold totally rad. Scope this complimentary lunch at an OC hippie mall:

And here’s us being way less psyched looking than we actually are

We’re playing the Daft Punk afterhours party tonight the TTL folks are setting up, which is kind of amazing given the surreal, nonsensical, and quite possibly impossible to listen to interview we did for their radio show yesterday. Like I said, good peeps. Good peeps.

(not vegan!)

We made it!

To the start of tour, that is. I spent all of the past two days clearing up my driver’s license so I can rent a vehicle out here in LA to drive up to Seattle, and finally got that done just in time to catch my flight. Got the car, drove it to the place I’m staying at, and promptly got towed the next morning for blocking someone’s driveway. I really don’t think I was blocking it but here’s what the windshield looked like when we I got it back from the impound lot:

Asshole Fuck! Haha.
